목적: 본 연구는 500병상 미만의 종합병원에 근무하는 전문지원인력의 실태조사를 위하여 시행되었다.
방법: 서울 지역 4개, 경기도와 인천 지역 6개, 충청도와 대전 지역 5개, 경상도와 부산 지역 14개, 전라도와 광주 지역 6개를 포함한 총 35개 종합병원의 전문지원인력 451명을 대상으로 하였다. 의료기관의 특성, 전문지원인력의 일반적 특성, 근무조건, 업무만족도, 업무 시 애로 사항 및 역할정립을 위해 필요한 내용의 중요도, 업무실태를 조사하여 기술통계로 분석하였다.
결과: 전문지원인력 중 전담간호사가 가장 많았고, PA, 전문간호사 순으로 나타났다. 전문간호사 자격증은 11.3%에서만 보유하고 있었고 소속부서는 대부분 간호부이었다. 업무만족도는 평균 3.07점으로 중간수준이었고 업무 시 애로사항은 불명확한 업무경계가 가장 높게 나타났다. PA군의 경우 위임된 처방을 대다수 수행하고 있었지만 문서화된 위임장의 비율은 낮은 것으로 나타났다.
결론: 전문간호사, 전담간호사, PA, SA, 코디네이터 등을 포함한 다양한 전문지원인력이 활동하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구결과를 통해 직군 간 업무의 종류 및 역량을 분석하여 명칭의 재정비와 전문지원인력의 명확한 업무 기술, 문서화된 지침서 등을 포함하여 의료기관 내 전문지원인력의 관리를 위한 위원회 구성을 제언한다.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current statistics of professional medical support staffs(PMSSs) working in general hospitals with less than 500 beds.
Methods: This study was conducted on 35 general hospitals with less than 500 beds from September 11th to October 27th, 2017.
Results: Four hundred fifty one PMSSs were currently providing medical support. The number of clinical nurse experts was the highest among the roles, followed by Physician Assistants(PA) and Advanced Practice Nurses. The mean job satisfaction score was 3.07 out of 5 . In the case of PA group, most of the delegated prescriptions were performed, however the delegated roles were not much documented in written format. The paucity of documentation requires a development of a committee for PMSSs, including a development of selection criteria and a scope of practice in each institution.
Conclusion: The results of this study suggested the composition of a committee for PMSSs in the medical institutions and renaming the specified titles of PMSSs.
